This week, the New York Giants exercised the fifth-year option of defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, who they selected 17th overall in the 2019 NFL draft.
That decisions came on the heels of the team declining the option of another first-round pick in that draft, quarterback Daniel Jones.
Lawrence will now be tangled up in blue until after the 2023 season. He will earn $2.3 million this season but that will balloon to $10.7 million next year. The option is guaranteed.
“It feels good,” Lawrence said of the news. “It shows they want me around still…and I want to be a New York Giant, so it’s good.”
Lawrence has not missed a game in his first three years with the Giants, appearing in all 48 games, starting 41. He has recorded 145 total tackles, 9.5 sacks and 30 QB hits in his career.
