In the span of less than 24 hours, the AL Central-leading Minnesota Twins have found themselves in a heap of trouble with COVID-19 and injuries.
First, it was reported on Thursday afternoon that manager Rocco Baldelli had tested positive for the virus and would be stepping away from the team. Later that day, news came out that infielder Luis Arraez and starting pitcher Dylan Bundy had received positive tests ahead of the Twins’ Thursday night matchup against the Baltimore Orioles.
Then during the contest against the O’s, prized free-agency acquisition Carlos Correa was hit by a pitch in the top of the fifth inning and later replaced at shortstop in the bottom of the seventh. Jon Morosi of MLB Network and NBC Sports reported Friday morning that the two-time All-Star is likely to be placed on the injured list with his finger injury.
According to multiple reports, Minnesota is expected to call up former No. 1 overall draft pick Royce Lewis for his big-league debut on Friday in a corresponding move.
