Panel: Who is the hardest puncher in the UK right now and what makes their power so unique?

This week’s panellists were asked to name the fighter they believe carries the most amount of power in the UK currently

Jason Cunningham (Current European super-bantamweight champion)

There are different kinds of punchers: one-punch or accumulative. My pick is based not on one-punch power but the way he breaks his opponents down – plus he’s a very big man. My pick is Joe Joyce. He’s relentless with his work and breaks his opponent’s heart before anything else. He throws big, clubbing shots all night and his record shows this.

Dave Allen (Heavyweight contender)

I think James Tennyson was up there before his recent retirement. I personally think the biggest punchers in the UK currently are Lawrence Okolie and Richard Riakporhe. What a fight that could be at cruiserweight.

Jordan Gill (Current European featherweight champion)

Leigh Wood has serious power in both hands, as he’s shown in his last few fights. What makes it unique is that he wears people down to set up the big shots, and carries his power late in the fight. Lawrence Okolie also has dynamite in his hands. It’s so hard to close the range on him without getting clipped.

Linus Udofia (Middleweight contender)

In terms of pure power, I would say Richard Riakporhe. I think the way he has taken his opponents out is very impressive; all to the head and body. His levers are what make his power quite unique and he is also an excellent judge of distance.

Lawrence Okolie (Mark Robinson/Matchroom Boxing)
