Major League Soccer has suspended Austin FC player Cecilio Domínguez for off-field misconduct.
The league has launched an investigation into the matter, consequently prohibiting the player from engaging in team activities as it remains ongoing.
“After receiving preliminary information gathered by Austin FC, Major League Soccer has suspended Austin FC player Cecilio Domínguez pending an MLS investigation into possible off-field misconduct. Mr. Domínguez will be prohibited from engaging in team activities during the pendency of the investigation. MLS will remain in close communication with Austin FC and the MLS Players Association throughout the process,” MLS announced in a statement.
The news comes one day after Austin FC announced Dominguez had obtained his green card, and would no longer occupy an international slot on the roster.
Dominguez first transferred to the expansion team in 2021 from Argentine side Independiente, signing as the club’s first ever Designated Player.
He made 34 appearances for Austin FC during his first season, and started four games in their 2022 campaign.
