Former Mohun Bagan and Kerala Blasters FC head coach, Kibu Vicuna is reportedly set to join newly-launched Kolkata-based Diamond Harbour Football Club (DHFC) in the near future, though it is not confirmed as to what his role will be.
All India Trinamool Congress MP, Abhishek Banerjee recently launched the Diamond Harbour Football Club, with the club set to participate in the upcoming season of Calcutta Football League, First Division – though the owner has stressed that his aim is to see the club play in the Indian Super League (ISL) in the future.
Vicuna for his part is expected to land in Kolkata after 15th May 2022, though there is some confusion as to what role he will play for DHFC. Aaj Tak Bangla had reported that Vicuna would be appointed as the head coach of the club, with some other reports stating that the Spaniard will be the Technical Director.
If Vicuna does become the Technical Director, it is understood that Krishnendu Roy will be given the head coach role, but if the Spaniard is appointed as the head coach, then Roy will essay the role of his assistant.
The 50-year-old who started his career with Osasuna in 2002 as their youth coach, led Mohun Bagan to the I-League title in 2019/20 and also had a stint as manager of Kerala Blasters FC in the 2020/21 season.
