The Indian Super League (ISL) is the most competitive football league in India, with all the top players from the country participating in it. The league also boasts decent foreign talent, while in recent times, it has emerged as a breeding ground for youngsters.
Here, we take a look at the Golden Boot winner in each edition of the ISL since it’s inauguration in 2014.
Chennaiyin FC signed the former Manchester City star, Elano in the inaugural edition as their marquee player and he made an immediate impact for the club, scoring eight goals to earn him the Golden Boot award.
The Brazilian who became a fan favourite of the club also captained the side and went on win the league in 2015.
Stiven Mendoza starred in his second stint in the ISL when he moved to Chennaiyin FC on loan from Corinthians, with the striker etching his name into the club’s history by not only winning the Golden Boot award but also scoring a last-gasp winner to lead the club to the title.
Also known as Marcelinho, the Brazilian spent only one season with the Delhi Dynamos, and what a signing he turned out to be as he netted 10 goals to win the Golden Boot award.
The 34-year-old was not only a good goalscorer but also played a key role in providing assists for his fellow team-mates.
A two-time Golden Boot winner, Ferran Corominas was an inspired signing for FC Goa with the Spaniard scoring 48 goals in the three seasons he played for them.
Despite his excellence in front of goal, the 38-year-old decided against extending his contract with the club, and at the time he left, he was the all-time highest goalscorer in the competitions history.
Nerijus Valskis joined Chennaiyin FC in 2019 and made an immediate impact in his debut season, scoring 15 goals in 20 games to win the Golden Boot award.
The striker led Chennaiyin to the finals of the competition and soon moved to Jamshedpur FC before eventually returning back to them in 2021/22.
FC Goa signed Igor Angulo in 2020 and the striker showed just why he is so highly rated, scoring 15 goals in his maiden season to win the Golden Boot award.
Despite his heroics on the pitch, it came as a surprise that Goa decided to sell Angulo to Mumbai City FC in the following season.
Bartholomew Ogbeche is arguably the greatest foreign player in the history of the ISL, considering that he has been extremely prolific for all the clubs he has played for, while also winning the league title with two different sides.
The Nigerian is not only the all-time highest goalscorer in the league’s history, but also the record goalscorer for NorthEast United, Kerala Blasters FC and Hyderabad FC.
