Conor McGregor shares thoughts on ’embarrassing’ squabble between Floyd Mayweather, Jake Paul
Richard Sherman is considering another familiar team as he starts negotiating with the 49ers.Â
All signs pointed toward Richard Sherman’s time with the San Francisco 49ers being over following the 2020 season. His three-year contract was up and the veteran was limited to five games in 2020.
But a new report from Chris Biderman of The Sacramento Bee states Sherman is reportedly having early talks with the 49ers about a return. In addition, he has also been chatting with the Seattle Seahawks.
Richard Sherman considering two familiar options
The 33-year-old was with the Seahawks from 2011-2017 before joining the 49ers for the 2018 season. He has only had two NFL homes and it appears he would like to stay out west in 2021.
The 49ers drafted two defensive backs in the 2021 NFL Draft, driving home the likelihood there is no room for Sherman. But the fact he is reportedly talking to the team could mean they may want to bring him back on a minimum deal.
Sherman talking to the Seahawks is perhaps even more interesting. That goes beyond whether he would even fit in the defense. Does he even want to play for Pete Carroll again? The overall relationship with the organization is there and Sherman being his own agent could mean he is just testing the waters on interest in himself. Why not reach out to old friends?
Sherman is still a five-time Pro Bowler and last received the honor in 2019. There is no reason why teams should shy away from him as a rotational player if he is indeed healthy again. That is going to be the ultimate key because teams are not exactly rushing to sign a 33-year-old with injury concerns.
The veteran finishing his career with the Seahawks would make for a great story. But the deal has to make sense for both sides and it appears negotiations with both teams are in the preliminary stages.
