A 911 call placed by Dwayne Haskin’s wife on the night the Steelers quarterback tragically died reveals sad details about what happened.
The circumstances around the death of Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins got a little bit clearer after the Broward County Sheriff’s office released a 911 recording from that night.
The recording is from a call made by Haskin’s wife, Kalabrya, to 911. She called emergency services, per ESPN, because the hadn’t heard from her husband after he said he was going to walk away from his vehicle to get gas.
Heading out to get gas sadly explains what Haskins was doing crossing Interstate 595 when he was struck by a dump truck. The final crash report found that the player was partially struck by another car as well. He died at the scene.
911 calls shed light on Dwayne Haskins’ tragic death
Authorities ruled that the driver of the dump truck did not contribute to the accident.
Haskins’ death shook the NFL world two weeks ago. He was in Florida doing offseason training with some Steelers teammates, preparing for a quarterback competition later this year.
A star at Ohio State, Haskins was drafted by Washington but his time there featured more downs than ups and he was ultimately released. Pittsburgh gave him a chance to revive his career. With Ben Roethlisberger retired, Haskins would have had an opportunity to compete for a starting job after spending the 2021 season as a reserve with the team.
Unfortunately, his life was cut short less than a month before what would have been his 25th birthday.
