Three prominent figures from the New York Giants’ Super Bowl championship teams of the 1980s and 90s are among 50 nominees of the New Jersey Hall of Fame’s 2021 public vote in five categories: Arts & Letters, Enterprise, Performing Arts, Public Service, and Sports.
Pro Football Hall of Famers linebacker Lawrence Taylor and head coach Bill Parcells along with quarterback Phil Simms are among 50 names on the ballot. Other nominees include luminaries such as Alexander Hamilton, Antonin Scalia, George Shultz, William Paterson, Anne Lindbergh, Dorothea Lange, Gay Talese, Paul Volcker, the Mars Family and John F. Nash Jr.
The three Giants are also joined on the ballot by former sports figures Ron Jaworski, Craig Biggio, Monte Irvin and Al Attles.
On the list from the realm of entertainment: the Jonas Brothers, Patti Smith, George Benson, Buddy Hackett, Brian DePalma, Bebe Neuwirth, Lesley Gore and David Copperfield.
Taylor, Simms and Parcells are responsible for bringing the Giants back to prominence in the 1980s with two Super Bowl championships. Taylor was one of the greatest defenders in the history of the NFL. Simms was the MVP of Super Bowl XXI and Parcells not only led the Giants to Super Bowls, he also took the New England Patriots to one as well and turned the Jets into contenders.
