The Chicago White Sox will be without rookie outfielder Andrew Vaughn for an unknown amount of time.Â
Ahead of Thursday’s game versus the Detroit Tigers, the White Sox placed Vaughn on the injured list because of the league’s COVID-19 health and safety protocols. In a corresponding roster move, Chicago recalled utility player Gavin Sheets from Triple-A Charlotte.
“Andrew is currently asymptomatic and our hope is that, similar to our other IL placements of this nature, he will return shortly to the active roster,” general manager Rick Hahn told reporters Thursday, per Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times. “At this time, no other players on the roster are impacted.”Â
Vaughn missed both games of Monday’s doubleheader at the Cleveland Indians because of issues said to be related to allergies but played Tuesday at Progressive Field. Wednesday’s matchup between the clubs was rained out.Â
A player not fully vaccinated who tests positive for COVID-19 must isolate for a minimum of 10 days.Â
Vaughn is batting .226 with four home runs and 12 RBIs across 43 games this season. Chicago, meanwhile, heads into Thursday’s contest at 33-22 overall and atop the American League Central standings. Detroit is 23-32 and fourth in the division.Â
