Starting pitcher Sonny Gray hasn’t taken the mound for the Minnesota Twins in over two weeks due to a pectoral strain. He’s been limited to only seven starts this season but will make his latest attempt to stay healthy as he returns to the bump when Minnesota takes on the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday.
MLB.com’s Do-Hyoung Park had the report on Gray’s impending return and also noted that the righty threw a 25- to 30-pitch simulated game at Target Field on June 10. Park added that rookie starter Joe Ryan is lined up to return from his own absence from the COVID-19 injured list on Tuesday.
Gray is 3-1 this year and has pitched to a 2.41 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with 39 strikeouts across 33 2/3 innings. He was traded to Minnesota from the Cincinnati Reds in March.
