Reds score 20 runs in win over Cubs, most since 1999

Earlier this season, the Cincinnati Reds scored 20 runs across an 11-game losing streak in April. On Thursday, the Reds matched that total in eight innings against the Chicago Cubs to win, 20-5.

The Reds hadn’t scored 20 runs in a game since 1999 when the team did it twice with a 22-3 win against the Philadelphia Phillies and a 24-12 win against the Colorado Rockies.

Chicago jumped out to a 3-0 lead Thursday before the Reds started their scoring frenzy in the bottom of the second inning with a two-run home run. One inning later, Cincinnati poured on eight more runs when the team batted around the Cubs.Â
