Blue Jays place Hyun Jin Ryu on IL with forearm inflammation

The Toronto Blue Jays are still trying to catch up to the AL East-leading (and MLB-leading) New York Yankees. They found out on Thursday that they’ll have to keep making that attempt without one of the members of their starting rotation.

Ryu has been limited to 27 innings pitched over six starts this season and has struggled mightily, posting a 5.33 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. The southpaw was placed on the 10-day injured list with left forearm inflammation on April 17 and was activated on May 14.

A 2019 All-Star with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Ryu is in his third season north of the border. Ryu went 14-10 in 2021, but his 4.37 ERA was a career-high.

Over 175 career regular-season games, the 35-year-old has a 75-45 record with a 3.26 ERA and 1.17 WHIP.
