WBO, IBF, IBO, WBA heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk will be a very interested observer in this Saturday’s fight between WBC champion Tyson Fury and mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte.
Fury will collide with Whyte before a record crowd of 94,000 at Wembley Stadium in London.
Usyk outboxed Anthony Joshua over twelve rounds last September, to capture the unified crown.
Their rematch will take place in the coming months, on a date in June or July.
Should Usyk come out on top in the rematch, he will be looking to fight the winner of this weekend’s fight.
“Definitely yes [we will be watching the fight],” Alexander Krassyuk, Usyk’s promoter, told Sky Sports.
“Egis Klimas [Usyk’s manager] and myself plan to attend the event and watch it from ringside. At Usyk’s training camp, he will watch and study the fight on TV.”
A few months ago, Fury discussed the scenario of retiring from the sport in the aftermath of his upcoming defense.
However, a few days ago the unbeaten boxer walked away from that position.
He’s very motivated on the goal of overcoming Whyte and then looking ahead to his boxing future.
“To be honest with you I am only thinking about Dillian Whyte, I am not thinking about retirement,” Fury said. “That will come after the fight, we will think about what will happen and what the future will hold for me.
“At the minute, I have a massive task in Dillian. A lot of people are underestimating Dillian Whyte but not me. I am giving him the respect he deserves throughout the training camp. I am not underestimating this guy, I give him the respect like I did for Deontay Wilder and everyone else.”
