Five division world champion Floyd Mayweather is motivated to secure a knockout victory when he faces Youtube star Logan Paul on Sunday, June 6th, in Miami, Florida.
Their eight round exhibition encounter will headline a Showtime Pay-Per-View card.
The 44-year-old Mayweather is going to be much smaller than the 6’2, near 200-pound Paul – but he was pushing hard for the smallest gloves possible.
Mayweather reveals that his handlers were negotiating the size of the gloves for the last few weeks.
According to the 50-0 boxer, they were initially going to fight in 16-ounce gloves.
While there won’t be official judges scoring the completed rounds, knockouts will be permitted and Mayweather is eager to close the show in dramatic fashion.
“First they were talking about 16-ounce gloves, then they talked about 14-ounce gloves, then it was 12-ounce gloves, now, as of today, we’re fighting in 10-ounce gloves. We’re getting closer and closer to what I want,” Mayweather told Cheddar News’ Alicia Nieves
“What I really want is 8-ounce gloves, so we can entertain the people. Even though it’s an exhibition, they want to see blood.”
Mayweather retired back in August of 2017, when he stopped UFC star Conor McGregor in ten rounds at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
He came back for an exhibition fight the following December, by traveling over to Japan to blow away local kickboxing talent Tenshin Nasukawa in the first round.
While Nasukawa was undersized, Paul will enjoy at least a 30-pound weight advantage.
But, Mayweather holds a tremendous edge in experience and skill.
Paul, 26-years-old, made his pro debut in 2019 – when he lost a six round split decision to Youtube rival KSI.
